In this performance-workshop we explore perversion as methodology, bringing into conversation queer theories (perversion as a political tool) and psychoanalytic theories of perversion and unconscious desire. We problematise radical identitarianism by shifting the focus to unleashing individual inner contradictions and perverse fantasies.
In the first part Rev Thanatos reads out poems in front of a live laptop projection screen where Marcella types lecture minutes and phrases that often seem to respond to Reverend's readings. In the second part Marcella delivers a short lecture on the topic "Perversion as Methodology". Switching positions, Marcella now concludes the second part with a reading of poems while Thanatos types lecture minutes and phrases that seem to respond to Marcella. The performers “re-read” relevant (or just irrelevant) texts and ask: is there friction between political identities, politics and a psychoanalytic idea of desire? In the third part the participants are introduced to the writing workshop. We ask them to produce short works by using images or texts we provide or their own. Each work produced is delivered as confession to Reverend Thanatos individually: the stage or the toilet booth is turned into a confession room where perverse wishes will materialise through speaking. Participants are encouraged to bring personal objects, texts or images to work with. |
