Exercises of Freedom series of 34 videos, total 47mins in Greek with English subtitles In 34 short experimental videos we imagine a queer person's experience of their national identity and history, and of European politics and art in times of crisis. The 34 short episodes were published first on social media and the entire series was later screened as a video installation at the exhibition Resurrection with Documena @ the Athens Biennale 2017, Waiting for the Barbarians. The title "34 Exercises of Freedom" was inspired by the eponymous public programme of documenta14 conceptualised by Paul Preciado. The series was created as a critical-satyrical response to that programme and its conceptual premise, which could be summarised by Preciado's statement that the greek word for freedom i.e. eleftheria (ελευθερία), does not semantically correspond to the western notion of freedom. Documena thus explored ways of being "indigenous queer" in a modern hellenic context. • Documena's statement: "34 exercises is a full work-out programme exploring various new ways of exercising Eleftheria (≠Freedom) in a contemporary authentic Greek context. It is not meant for domestic use only but rather seeks to expand on a Pan-Hellenic and Pan-European scale and beyond. The 34 exercises are governed by ancient Greek as well as contemporary Hellenic democratic principles. Documena is once again generously sharing their indigenous queer values with the world."
