GOLFE Ein bukolisches Liebesdrama über die griechisch-deutsche Freundschaft Golfe is a remake of the original 1915 silent film Golfo, (greek: Γκόλφω), the first ever greek feature film. This time, the poor and orphaned Golfe is a beautiful young german shepherdess who services the chief shepherd of the greek village Zisis. She finds love in the eyes of a lad in the region, the shepherd Tassos. While sieged by Kitsos, the rich kid of the village, she rejects him and remains faithful to the love vows exchanged with Tasos. The two youngsters are engaged and about to marry when Tasos gets a pressing matchmaking for him by Kitsos, who suggests he should better marry the cousine and daughter of the chief shepherd instead, the russian-speaking Stavroula. Despite the initial immediate denial, Tasos is eventually lured by the large dowry and takes Stavroula as his wife, abandoning Golfo. The young girl is desperate, loses her mind and curses Tasos. Shortly before the wedding, the almost insane by that point Golfe lifts the curse after the divine intervention of Apollo and wishes the couple happiness. Tasos, shaken by the divine greatness of her love, changes his mind and runs to her, but it is too late: Golfe has poisoned herself and lies unconscious in his arms. Tasos -convinced Golfe is dead commits suicide at her side. |
